Aldara Drug Uses

Aldara Cream is used to treat external genital and perianal warts and is different from most other treatments. It is a patient-applied cream that helps the body fights the virus instead of just getting rid of the warts. So Aldara Cream actually treats warts from the inside out.

How Taken

Aldara cream is easy to use at home. It's rubbed on the warts and left on during sleeping hours. Then it's washed off after waking. Use Aldara Cream exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. Aldara Cream is for skin use only. Do not take by mouth or use in or near your eyes, lips or nostrils. Do not use Aldara Cream unless your healthcare provider has taught you the right way to use it. Talk to your healthcare provider if you have any questions. Aldara Cream is used for several skin conditions. Use Aldara Cream only on the area of your body to be treated. Your healthcare provider will tell you where to apply Aldara cream and how often and for how long to apply it for your condition. Do not use Aldara Cream longer than prescribed. Using too much Aldara Cream, or using it too often, or for too long can increase your chances for having a severe skin reaction or other side effect. Talk to your healthcare provider if Aldara Cream does not work for you. For external genital and perianal warts Aldara Cream is usually used once a day for 3 days a week. For these conditions, Aldara Cream is usually left on the skin for 6 to 10 hours. Treatment should continue until the warts are completely gone, or up to 16 weeks. For actinic keratosis, Aldara Cream is usually used once a day for 2 days a week. For this condition, Aldara Cream is usually left on the skin for about 8 hours. Treatment should continue for the full 16 weeks even if all actinic keratoses appear to be gone, unless you are told otherwise by your healthcare provider. The area you treat with Aldara Cream should be no larger than approximately the size of your forehead or one cheek (for example 2 inches).

Aldara Warnings/Precautions

If you notice severe skin irritation or flu-like symptoms (diarrhea, fatigue, fever, headache, or muscle pain), check with your doctor. It may be necessary for you to reduce the number of times a day that you use the medicine or to stop using the medicine for a short time until your skin is less irritated or your flu-like symptoms disappear. Avoid having genital, oral, or anal sex while the medicine is on your skin. Make sure you wash the cream off your skin before you engage in any sexual activity. Also, the medicine contains oils that can weaken latex (rubber) condoms, diaphragms, or cervical caps causing them not to work properly to prevent pregnancy. Do not use any other skin product on the same skin area on which you use this medicine, unless directed otherwise by your doctor. Do not share your medicine with others, even if you think that they have the same condition you have. If you are pregnant, check with your health care provider.

Aldara Missed Dose

Apply the missed dose of cream as soon as you remember and then continue on the regular schedule.

Aldara Possible Side Effects

The most common side effects with Aldara Cream are skin reactions at the treatment site including:

Aldara Storage

Store below 25oC (77oF). Avoid freezing. Safely throw away Aldara Cream that is out of date or that you do not need. Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children.

In addition to cost-savings, beneficiaries enrolled in Online-medspharmacy.com have access to an increased level of patient safety, including drug utilization review and other clinical safety programs. Additionally, all Online-medspharmacy.com members are covered under Medco's Polypharmacy Safety Program, which helps reduce the risk of adverse events associated with the use of multiple prescriptions prescribed by multiple physicians and filled by multiple pharmacies - a scenario that substantially increases the risk of medication errors. A recent analysis by Medco found that seniors cared for by five doctors have a 60 percent greater risk of an adverse medication event than those seen by only two doctors.

Seniors no longer have to make tradeoffs between quality and price. Online-medspharmacy.com offers higher-quality, lower-cost and no-compromise pharmacy care.

Online-medspharmacy.com, which is an approved, national prescription drug program, provides Medicare beneficiaries broad coverage on more than 3,000 medications, access to more than 2,000 pharmacists, available 24/7, a retail pharmacy network of more than 50,000 pharmacies, and Savings Advisors who provide free consultations and work with members' doctors to save them the most money under the plan.

Herpes infections down, but still are a concern
CHICAGO - Nearly 25 years after a news magazine declared that an epidemic of genital herpes threatened to undo the sexual revolution, a new study finds an encouraging decline in the percentage of people infected with the herpes virus.
Back in 1982, a Time cover story headlined “The New Scarlet Letter” sounded an alarm that seems mild now compared to concern over another sexually transmitted lifetime infection, the AIDS virus.
The new study shows a 19 percent drop since 1994 in the percentage of Americans ages 14 to 49 testing positive for herpes type 2, the most common cause of the recurring painful sores of genital herpes. The declines were especially pronounced among young people.
The findings, appearing in Wednesday’s Journal of the American Medical Association, represent biological evidence of a decrease in risky sexual behavior among adolescents, said lead author Dr. Fujie Xu of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“Overall, this is good news. There is a decrease occurring among all youth, males and females, and in all racial groups,” Xu said. “That’s very encouraging.”
But herpes is still uncomfortably common. Despite the decline, blood tests of more than 11,000 people found 11 percent of men and 23 percent of women carry the genital herpes, or type 2, virus. Among people in their 20s, the infection rate was almost 11 percent.
Ironically, the rates have dropped back to about where they were when Time ran its cover story, said study co-author Dr. Stuart Berman of the CDC.
“If it was a scarlet letter then, I don’t know what you call it now and there’s more HIV around,” Berman said. Herpes greatly increases the chances of infection with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.
“It’s still an epidemic,” said Dr. Tom Cherpes of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, who was not involved with the study. “The fact that there’s a trend downward should not be construed by anybody that herpes is under control.”
In addition, 56 percent of men and 60 percent of women tested positive for the oral herpes virus, type 1, which is best known as the culprit behind cold sores, but can spread to the genitals through oral sex. Type 1 may be causing more genital infections in some groups, such as college students, Xu and Berman said.
Herpes can be treated with antiviral drugs, which can help prevent flare-ups and reduce the risk of spreading it to others. Condoms can help lower the risk of transmission, although they’re not foolproof. Infected people are contagious even without symptoms.
The study was funded by the CDC. A previous CDC report in 1997 found a 30 percent increase in herpes infection since the late 1970s.
“This new data really reverses the trend,” said study co-author Francis Lee of Emory University.
Dr. Kenneth Fife of the Indiana University School of Medicine, who was not involved in the study, noted that rates of infection are still disproportionately high among women and blacks. The study found 42 percent of blacks tested positive for herpes type 2, a decline of only 4 percent since 1994.
“Maybe we’ve finally gotten through to the young people that they need to change their behavior,” Fife said. “We still see plenty of genital herpes. There are adolescents who are becoming infected.”
