Nexium Drug Uses

Nexium is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), a condition in which backward flow of acid from the stomach causes heartburn and injury of the esophagus (food pipe between the mouth and stomach). Nexium is used to treat the symptoms of GERD, allow the esophagus to heal, and prevent further damage to the esophagus. It is also used with other medications to prevent stomach ulcers. Nexium is in a class of medications called proton pump inhibitors. It works by decreasing the amount of acid made in the stomach.

How Taken

Nexium comes as a delayed-release (long-acting) capsule to take it orally. It is usually taken once a day at least one hour before a meal. To help you remember to take Nexium, take it around the same time every day. Swallow the capsules whole; do not split, chew, or crush them. If you cannot swallow the capsule, put one tablespoon of cool, soft applesauce in an empty bowl. Open one Nexium capsule and carefully sprinkle the pellets onto the applesauce. Mix the pellets with the applesauce, and swallow the entire tablespoonful of the applesauce and pellet mixture immediately. Do not chew the pellets in the applesauce. Do not save the pellets and applesauce for later use.

Nexium Warnings/Precautions

Before taking Nexium, tell your doctor if you have ever had any type of liver disease. You may not be able to take Nexium, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring. Nexium is in the FDA pregnancy category B. This means that it is unlikely to harm an unborn baby. Do not take Nexium without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant. It is not known whether Nexium passes into breast milk. Do not take Nexium without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. Serious and occasionally fatal hypersensitivity (anaphylactic) reactions have been reported in patients on penicillin therapy. These reactions are more apt to occur if you have a history of penicillin hypersensitivity and/or a history of sensitivity to multiple allergens. Pseudo membranous colitis has been reported with nearly all antibacterial agents, including clarithromycin and amoxicillin, and may range in severity from mild to life threatening. Therefore, it is important to consider this diagnosis in patients who present with diarrhea subsequent to the administration of antibacterial agents.

Nexium Missed Dose

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take only your next regularly scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose of this medication unless otherwise directed by your doctor.

Nexium Possible Side Effects

Nexium side effects that may go away during treatment include headache, constipation, cough, or diarrhea. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. Contact your doctor IMMEDIATELY if you experience throat pain, chest pain, severe stomach pain, or coffee-ground vomit. An allergic reaction to Nexium is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction to Nexium include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.

Nexium Storage

Store at 25°C (77°F); excursions permitted to 15 - 30°C (59 - 86°F). Keep container tightly closed. Dispense in a tight container if the product package is subdivided.

While making purchases at Online-medspharmacy.com it is found that the cost of medicines is lower than a local drugstore.
The difference is due to the fact that Online-medspharmacy.com source its medicines directly from the pharmaceutical manufacturers. The elimination of middle men reduces costs and the benefit is passed directly to the user. Whether buying bulk or smaller units, the cost difference is appreciable. Some online pharmacies have introduced a membership system whereby members get additional discounts or loyalty points which can be adjusted while making next purchase. Does the local pharmacy offer such schemes?

Online-medspharmacy.com offers value added services like online consultation, online prescription, order placing, online payment and home delivery. All these are free of cost and add to the unique shopping experience. Online consultation is provided through a form to be filled by patient. This is evaluated by registered doctors who then provide a conclusion in a form of treatment on an online prescription. Nexium can be ordered using the online prescription and these are billed and delivered to your home. You also get secure means of making payment for the purchased goods.

Q: Do I have to be at home when my Nexium order arrives?
A: Yes, we require an adult signature for all orders.

Understanding Heartburn -- Treatment

What Are the Treatments?
To determine an effective heartburn treatment, you doctor needs to learn about your heartburn. Your description of your heartburn symptoms may be all a doctor requires, but sometimes additional procedures are necessary. The esophagus can be viewed through an endoscope -- a long, thin, flexible tube inserted through the mouth -- or by X-ray.
Over-the-counter antacids are commonly prescribed to neutralize stomach acid. If antacids don't quell the symptoms, your doctor may recommend an over-the-counter heartburn drug such as Pepcid AC, Tagamet HR, Axid AR, or Zantac 75.
If heartburn symptoms persist, your doctor can turn to drugs such as Prevacid, Prilosec, Nexium, Protonix, or Aciphex to reduce the stomach's production of acid, or Reglan to make the stomach empty itself faster.
When all else fails, surgery may be required to repair the lower esophageal sphincter. This surgery can now be done using a laparoscope and requires only a short hospital stay.
Lifestyle Changes to Manage Your Heartburn
Remember, diet does NOT cause GERD. Nevertheless, GERD and its most frequent symptom of heartburn can be aggravated by foods, certain medications and other factors. Here are some suggestions to improve your heartburn symptoms.
* Don't go to bed with a full stomach. Eat meals at least two to three hours before lying down -- this will give food time to digest and empty from your stomach, and acid levels a chance to decrease before putting your body in a position where heartburn is more likely to occur.
* Don't overeat. Decrease the size of portions at meal times, or try eating four to five small meals instead of three large ones.
* Eat slowly. Take time to eat -- don't rush. Try putting your fork down between bites.
* Wear looser-fitting clothes.
* Avoid heartburn triggers. Stay away from foods and beverages that trigger your heartburn symptoms (for example, onions, peppermint, chocolate, caffeine-containing beverages such as coffee, citrus fruits or juices, tomatoes, or high-fat foods). A good way to figure out what foods cause your symptoms is to keep a heartburn diary.
* Shed some pounds. If you are overweight, losing weight can help relieve your symptoms.
* Stop smoking. Nicotine, one of the main active ingredients in cigarettes, can weaken the lower esophageal sphincter, the muscle that controls the opening between the esophagus and stomach, preventing the acid-containing contents of the stomach from entering the esophagus.
* Avoid alcohol. If your aim is to unwind after a stressful day, try exercise, walking, meditation, stretching, or deep breathing instead of drinking alcohol.
* Keep a diary or heartburn log. Keep track of when heartburn hits and the specific activities that seem to trigger the incidents.
If Your Heartburn Is Worse When Lying Down:
Raise the head of your bed so that your head and chest are higher than your feet. You can do this by placing six-inch blocks under the bed posts at the head of the bed. Don't use piles of pillows to achieve the same goal. You will only put your head at an angle that can increase pressure on your stomach and make your heartburn worse.
* Eat earlier. Try not to eat for at least three hours before you go to sleep.
If Your Heartburn Worsens After Exercise:
* Time your meals. Wait at least two hours after a meal before exercising. If you work out any sooner, you may trigger heartburn.
* Drink more water. Drink plenty of water before and during exercise to prevent dehydration.
